It's aight, Puerto Madryn - March 18-19

Published on Friday, April 12th, 2013

March 18 We got to Puerto Madryn at about seven in the morning and headed over to Hostel Les Tounens, operated by a French Guy named Victor. This was probably the best hostel host we would have on the trip. Unfortunately, I can't say that Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdez were the greatest place on the trip. We wandered around town by foot looking for breakfast. We ended up finding some little ham and cheese sandwiches at a Havana store. Then we rented a car at a steep rate (why so steep in th...

Tourist Town Bariloche - March 12 to March 17

Published on Friday, April 12th, 2013

March 12 It was tough to leave the Northwest (probably more for me than for Terry) after having had such nice visits. But by about noon on Thursday we had arrived for a few hours in Cordoba after the worst bus ride of our trip. On the overnight bus, a tire blew out and a window shattered. So the ride was pretty cold and we didn't get much sleep. In Cordoba we had just enough time to grab breakfast (more facturas), pick up some cash from a money order, and get lunch. We found a late afternoon bu...

Visiting Old Friends - Jujuy and Tucumán March 9-11

Published on Friday, March 15th, 2013

March 9 We survived the heat of San Pedro for the night and got dressed and ready to go meet up with Sebastian. Sebastian is a young man that used to spend lots of time with the missionaries. I didn't actually serve as a missionary in the branch he attends (I was in Rama Belgrano and not Rama San Pedro), but for some reason we have kept in touch all these years later. He ended up serving as a missionary in the Asunción mission where he met my little brother once. We headed over to his house, st...

¡Caminos impresionantes! El Noroeste - March 6-8

Published on Friday, March 8th, 2013

March 6 So Terry and I hopped on the overnight bus to Tucumán, which arrived just a bit before noon on hot, humid day. We immediately walked to where our desired hostel was, only to discover it was on an extremely busy street just a few blocks northwest of the Plaza de Independencia. I suppose I had forgotten just how busy the city can be. So we decided maybe we should start the trip by renting a car and heading out of town. But I at least showed Terry La Casa de Indepenencia and La Casa del Gob...

Wrapping it up in Mendoza - March 4-5

Published on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

On Monday we went on a trip with Luis (man Terry's brother baptized), wife, and son to the Villavicencio Natural Reserve to the north of Mendoza. We stopped at the place of the former resort to tomar some mate. We then took a nice drive to the high mountains above the former resort and had some sandwiches. The road up the mountain side was quite scenic and we saw some great views looking back down towards the desert valley. After this excursion we drove back into town and took a drive around Pa...
